Synopsis

A deeply personal exploration of illness and the unconventional paths toward healing, Chelsea McMullan’s Healer—shot on richly textured 16mm—follows Sophie as she returns home to visit her ailing mother, Heather. Heather asks Sophie to accompany her to a workshop led by Lucas, an enigmatic child healer. Guiding a small circle of patients and caregivers through visualizations and ritualized movements meant to channel energy, Lucas’s unnerving presence unsettles Sophie. In the aftermath, the experience reverberates through both mother and daughter, culminating in an unexpected moment of release.
